Cremation and Aftercare Options

When I perform an at-home euthanasia, I can help you make a plan for aftercare ahead of time, so you are not left to make decisions at the last minute.

If you choose cremation, I will gently prepare your pet’s body at the time of the appointment and then arrange transportation to one of my trusted cremation providers. Together, we will choose the option that feels right for you. Cremation options are typically grouped into two categories: private cremation (ashes returned) and communal cremation (ashes not returned).

Some families choose a different path and take full responsibility for aftercare themselves. Most often, this means home burial. If you do not elect cremation, I do not provide additional aftercare services, and your pet’s care after the appointment becomes your responsibility. If you choose burial, it is also your responsibility to understand and follow any local and state laws that apply where you live.

If you are not sure which option feels right, that is completely normal. Some families know immediately what they want, and others need time to think it through. Either way, you do not have to carry that decision alone.

If your pet has already passed at home, you can contact a pet cremation service directly for guidance on next steps. Many cremation services can help you with timely transportation and cremation arrangements, and they can walk you through the options in a simple, supportive way.
